Most articles of the "name your 10 essentials" type lose my interest pretty quickly. They're either wildly aspirational (a Tom Ford tuxedo is quite far from essential for most), an advertorial (when half the list is from your own label, it's not really passing along any wisdom you've acquired over the years, it's shilling for your brand) or too on-trend to stand out from everything else (chambray, shawl neck sweaters and Red Wing boots are all good indicators of this, no matter how much we all love them right now).
That's why when I came across this, I was actually impressed by some good advice:
"Good underwear (jersey trunks, black cotton socks, white tubular t-shirts), a few jeans, a few slim chinos in all materials, striped shirts, two jackets, one parka, one raincoat, knitted ties, desert boots in a few colors. And a good pedicure, especially in the winter."I'll be able to make do without the pedicure, but I swear, you could hand this quote out printed on business cards and a lot of men would be far more put together for the effort.
