Dear Old Pal of Mine

I like drinking ... quite a bit in fact ... so I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting ways to make myself feel horrible the next day. As a big fan of Campari, winter is an unwelcome intruder on my drinking habits -- Campari always seems too summery to drink when there's a chill in the air. I started searching for a drink that combined it with something hearty, like whiskey, bourbon or rye, and came across the Old Pal.

And you know what? It was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

There's a few different versions out there, some more traditional that others, but this is what I've found works best for me:
1oz Campari
1oz Rye
1oz Dry Vermouth

Build in a rocks glass with ice, stir well, but gently, and serve with a cherry.
You might not want to have more than a couple of these in a night, as they pack something of a punch. Then on the other hand, you might want to have a few more than a couple for the exact same reason.
